What type of testing do I need? Most of the time the answer is a psychoeducational assessment. These tests are required by most schools, College Board, and the ACT to determine the necessity of accommodations. These tests are comprehensive, looking for learning disabilities (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, etc...), psychological disorders (anxiety, depression, etc...), and attention difficulties (ADD/ADHD). However, if you are looking to determine whether a psychological disorder or attention difficulty is present, then testing just for those might be warranted. Often schools will accommodate students with these tests, but College Board and ACT might not. If you're confused about what type of testing you need, or if you want a screener to determine if these tests might be necessary, please email me to set up a consultation. Why is testing important? As with any problem in life, understanding the problem, and the scope of the problem, are the first steps to finding a solution. When testing is completed we can find immediate solutions to create long-term results. Often solutions include accommodations in school, referrals to other professionals and other recommendations as needed. Does being referred to testing mean there's something wrong with me? Absolutely not! We all have different strengths and weaknesses. What you excel at, someone else might struggle in and vice versa. The challenge is to figure out how to apply your strengths to make school and life better. Are there any conditions that cannot be tested online? Due to the difficulties that technology can bring into the testing process, some language-based disorders (e.g. receptive & expressive language disorder) are better assessed in-person. This does not mean these tests can not necessarily be done online. However, I will require a meeting online before testing to determine if this is an appropriate method of assessment. What age ranges do you test? My clientele are generally between 8-21 years old. However I have tested as young as 5 and as old as 53. For online testing I generally do not test students younger than 12, depending on their familiarity with online technology. How much does testing cost? A psychoeducational evaluation costs $2,700. This includes intake, testing, a report of the results, and a follow up meeting. Psychological, educational, and screening tests are charged at my hourly rate of $150/hour. Full pricing for these tests depends on the extent of testing, and I will provide you with an estimate before we schedule testing. Consultations to determine if testing is appropriate are free up to 20 minutes. However, consultations to review previous testing, or do screening for learning disorders, are charged at my hourly rate. Payments can be made in monthly installments, if need be. I do not charge interest to pay in monthly installments. What forms of payment do you accept? Check, Cash, PayPal, and Credit Card. Do you accept insurance? Currently I do not take insurance. However, I will gladly write you a receipt for services with the appropriate CPT billing codes that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. When are you available? I am available by appointment only. I work on both weekdays and weekends. How long after testing until the report is finished? I aim for a 2-week turn around. However, during busy times of the year (summer, spring break, winter break) it might take longer due to the increased client load. When will you start providing in-person assessments again? I am only providing in-person assessments to Massachusetts residents who are currently residing in Massachusetts. For the time being I will only provide online assessments to California residents who are currently residing in California. I do not know if, or when, this will change. What if I have a question that is not on this website? Please feel free to contact me! I am more than happy to answer any questions you have about my practice or about testing in general. I prefer initial contacts via email, but will gladly answer your questions on the phone if that is your preference. What if I live outside California and Massachusetts? Right now I am only providing assessments to California and Massachusetts residents. For California residents, at the time of the assessment you must be physically in California.
